Reducto Office is a new free plugin that lets ChatGPT and Codex edit your real Word, Excel and PowerPoint files instead of pasting back plain text. Reducto announced it on October 29, 2026, pitching it at contracts, budgets and slide decks where formatting, comments and tracked changes matter. Here's what it does, how to set it up, who it suits, and the catch.

What Reducto Office does
Most AI chats treat a document as text. Ask for an edit and you often get a rewritten copy, with tables, styles or review history lost along the way. Reducto says Office works on the file's underlying structure instead, and shows each change in a live editor next to the chat.
According to Reducto's Office page, you can:
- Word (.docx): rewrite text, change styles and lists, edit tables, headers, footers, footnotes and comments, and propose edits as tracked changes you accept or reject.
- Excel (.xlsx): work in workbooks with live formulas and charts.
- PowerPoint (.pptx): edit slide decks with charts, and, in Reducto's example, translate a deck while keeping its design.
- Share and roll back: share a file by link, and restore any earlier saved version.
Reducto also says PDFs and old .doc files open as editable Word documents.
How to set it up in ChatGPT
Reducto lists three steps:
- In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps, find Reducto Office and click Connect.
- Sign in with a Reducto account.
- Upload a .docx, .xlsx or .pptx file, or ask ChatGPT to create one. The editor opens beside the chat.
It also works in Codex, and Reducto's site gives a remote MCP server address for Claude and other MCP clients. To download a finished file, you ask ChatGPT for it, or open your documents at office.reducto.ai.
Who it's for
The examples Reducto gives are practical small-business jobs: working through reviewer comments on a contract as tracked changes, turning a project brief into a budget spreadsheet you can check, or translating a client presentation. If you already use ChatGPT and spend your day in Office files, it's worth a free test on a non-sensitive document.
If you'd rather have the AI build documents and slides from scratch, see our post on Claude's free docs, slides and design tools. For OpenAI's latest model news, read our GPT-6.1 Terra post, or browse more options in the tools directory.
The catch: "free" comes with limits Reducto doesn't spell out
Reducto says the plugin is "free to use, with usage limits," and its Office page says it is "subject to rate limits." On October 30, 2026, none of the pages we checked (the launch post, the Office page and the support page) said what those limits are. So you can't yet tell how many files or edits a day you get before you're slowed down. For production use, Reducto points businesses to Reducto Editor, a separate licensed product for building editing into their own apps.
