New launch, not tested hands-on. Screen Studio 4.0 (“Glass Loupe, Camera Cutout, Edit by Transcript, and more”) was in the Product Hunt feed on October 30, 2026 (10:42 AM ET). The 4.0 app update shipped September 30, 2026, and 4.1 followed on October 20. Everything below comes from screen.studio, its changelog and affiliate page. We have not recorded with it.

Affiliate program exists; we have not joined it. Screen Studio runs an affiliate program (15% commission on every initial purchase, 30-day tracking, per screen.studio/affiliate, checked November 1, 2026). We have not joined, so links on this page are plain links and we earn nothing from them.

Summary

Quick verdict: still the reference for polished Mac product demos: you record normally, and Screen Studio adds zooms, smooth cursor movement and framing afterwards, because it records the cursor separately. Version 4 makes it a light video editor too: cut by deleting transcript text, remove filler words, put your face beside the screen. Every feature is in every plan; you just choose $9 a month billed yearly or $29 month to month. Mac only.

  • Records your screen without the cursor, then re-adds it, so cursor size, smoothing and click effects can change after recording.
  • Automatic zooms follow your clicks; the new Glass Loupe magnifies one detail without moving the whole screen.
  • Edit by transcript: delete a sentence to cut it, remove filler words, tighten long pauses.
  • Camera cutout (beta), split screen, face tracking and color grading for talking-head demos.
  • Price: one feature set; $9 a month billed yearly or $29 month to month. Students and educators get 40% off.
  • Recordings are stored and processed on your Mac; transcription runs locally, per the FAQ.

Features

From screen.studio and its changelog (4.0 on September 30 and 4.1 on October 20, 2026), November 1, 2026. Described, not tested.

  • Automatic zooms and smooth cursor: zoom follows clicks; cursor size, shape and motion are adjustable after recording.
  • Glass Loupe (4.0): magnify one detail under a lens while viewers still see the rest of the screen.
  • Edit by transcript (4.0): delete text to cut video, remove filler words such as “um”, shorten long pauses.
  • Camera cutout, split screen, face tracking (4.0): appear without your background, side by side or stacked for vertical video.
  • Hide sensitive data and Hide faces (4.1): automatically covers emails, phone numbers, card numbers and keys, and blurs faces, on your Mac.
  • Export (4.1): ProRes for Final Cut, Resolve and Premiere; up to 3x faster MP4 and 4x faster, smaller GIFs.
  • Presets and team sharing: save a look (background, padding, shadow) and share projects with teammates.
  • Shareable links and cloud transcript are included in both plans.

Who it’s for

  • SaaS founders and marketers making product demos and launch videos on a Mac.
  • Course creators and support teams recording tutorials and help videos.
  • Developers who post short demos on X or in docs.
  • Not for you if you use Windows (no plans for it) or need a full timeline editor for long videos.

The catch

Mac only, and month-to-month is expensive.

  • Mac only, and the FAQ says there are no near-future plans for Windows.
  • Monthly billing ($29) costs over three times the yearly rate ($9 a month).
  • No free trial or free plan is mentioned in the pricing section.
  • Camera cutout is still marked beta, and the 4.1 notes warn that Hide sensitive data may miss details, so review before you share.
  • One-time licenses are gone; it is subscription only for new buyers.

Verdict

  • Pick yearly ($9 a month) if you record demos every month; monthly only makes sense for a single project.
  • Students and teachers: claim the 40% education discount first.
  • Already have an old license? It still works; renew only if you want the 4.x features.

Worth trying if: you make product demos or tutorials on a Mac and want them polished without learning a video editor.

Skip it if: you are on Windows, or you only record a video once in a while and won’t pay $29 for one month.

Not tested hands-on. Prices can change; re-check screen.studio before you buy.
