Summary
Quick verdict: a clear, honest validation API for screening signups, with a usable free tier. Just know that each field is a separate charged check, and it can’t confirm that a mailbox or phone line is real.
- Orisift is a developer API that validates four kinds of input: phone numbers, email addresses, IP addresses and domains. One API key, one endpoint, the same JSON shape for each.
- Phone checks parse and validate numbers against national numbering plans and screen reserved or fictional ranges (NANPA, Ofcom, ACMA). Email checks cover syntax, domain, mail routing and 8,985 known throwaway providers.
- IP checks classify IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and screen special-purpose ranges. Domain checks look at DNS, mail routing, SPF and DMARC across six DNS queries.
- Every result names the source of each signal and says what it could not establish. You can also ask for a recommended action with reason codes.
- It is open about its limits: it does not confirm that an individual mailbox exists, that a phone line is live, or who the carrier is.
- Orisift is a trading name of Tervra Limited (England and Wales). It was shown on Hacker News as a Show HN on October 12, 2026.

- Credit cost per check: phone, email and IP cost 1 credit each. A domain check costs 2. Costs don’t vary by country.
- You also get 3 live previews a day on the website with no account. The 500 signup credits are one-time, not monthly. No card is needed for the free tier.
- Completed checks are charged even when the verdict is rejected or inconclusive. Failures on Orisift’s side are not charged.
- Retries with an Idempotency-Key header aren’t charged twice.
- Subscriptions renew automatically. Cancelling stops renewals but doesn’t refund the current period. Credit packs aren’t sold right now.

What a signup check really costs (our math)
- Checking all four fields on one signup (phone + email + IP + domain) is four separate requests and 5 credits, because the domain check costs 2.
- So Starter’s 20,000 credits cover about 4,000 full four-field signups a month, or 20,000 email-only checks.
- Per full signup on Starter that’s about £0.005 (half a penny). On Professional, about £0.0025.
- The free 500 credits cover about 100 full four-field checks: enough to test the API, not to run a live product.

Features
From orisift.com, its pricing page, docs and coverage matrix, October 12, 2026.
- Phone validation: parsing and E.164 normalisation, numbering-plan validation and a reserved/fictional range screen.
- Email verification: syntax, domain existence, MX and implicit routing, null-MX detection, role-address screening and a list of 8,985 throwaway providers.
- IP intelligence: IPv4 and IPv6 classification, special-purpose registry screening, reverse DNS and network type.
- Domain intelligence: delegation, address records, mail routing, nameservers, SPF and DMARC posture.
- Evidence and limits: each signal names its source, and unsupported checks are marked rather than guessed.
- Recommended actions: name a policy on a request to get a recommended action, a pinned policy version and reason codes.
- Developer tools: one REST endpoint, a published TypeScript SDK, idempotent retries and full lookup history.
- Comparison pages: Orisift publishes its own comparisons with Twilio Lookup, ZeroBounce, NeverBounce, IPQualityScore and others.
Who it’s for
- A developer launching a SaaS or app who wants to block fake numbers, throwaway emails and odd IPs at signup: start free, then Starter.
- An agency or freelancer adding signup checks to client sites: Starter covers about 4,000 full checks a month.
- A growing product with real signup traffic: Growth or Professional for higher rate limits.
- Not for you if you need confirmed mailbox delivery, live phone-line or carrier checks, or a no-code tool.

The catch
Each field is a separate charged request, so checking every field multiplies the cost.
- The API checks one identifier per request. Checking phone, email, IP and domain on one signup is four requests and 5 credits, not one.
- A completed check is charged even when the answer is “inconclusive”.
- It doesn’t confirm that an email inbox exists or that a phone number is in use, so it won’t replace a full email-deliverability or carrier-lookup service.
Verdict
- Free (500 credits once): enough to wire it up and test about 100 full signups.
- Starter (£19 or $25/month): the realistic plan for a small product or a few client sites.
- Growth and Professional: worth it only when signup volume or rate limits demand it.
Worth it if: you build a product with signups and want cheap, transparent checks for fake phone numbers, throwaway emails and suspicious IPs, with clear evidence for each result.
Skip it if: you need to confirm real inboxes or live phone lines, or you want a no-code plugin rather than an API.
Price at the time of writing this review: free (500 credits once), then £19 a month (Starter), £49 (Growth) or £149 (Professional); listed in USD as $25, $65 or $199. If you’re reading this at a later date, the price may have changed. Not tested in production. Orisift is new; no screening tool catches every fake signup.
