Summary
Quick verdict: a serious, business-first agent from Google that works across Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack and 100+ other apps, with spend caps, audit trails and per-user permissions built in. It’s worth a 30-day trial if your team already lives in Google or Microsoft tools, but several headline features are still early access and Google doesn’t publish a price for the agent itself.
- Google Cloud launched the Gemini agent on October 8, 2026 at its Gemini at Work 2026 event. Google calls it “one universal agent for the way you work.”
- You give it an objective rather than step-by-step instructions. It plans the work, uses tools and connectors, works inside your email, docs, code and data, and hands back finished output, from the same prompt box and the same shared context.
- It remembers tasks, facts and methods across devices, and long jobs run on their own secure machine in Google Cloud, so they keep going after you log off.
- Security is the strongest part: it runs under each person’s existing permissions, keeps a full audit trail, and you can set a budget cap per project so the agent pauses instead of overspending.
- It is sold through Gemini Enterprise, Google’s business AI subscription. The Business edition starts at $21 per seat per month with a 30-day trial; Google lists no separate price for the agent.
- It is aimed at businesses. Google says it will reach consumers later.

- Google’s pages do not say which edition includes the new Gemini agent, so confirm with sales before you budget.
- Cost controls: Google says you can set a budget cap per project and the agent pauses instead of overspending, with costs tracked to each team.
- The agent routes each job to a model that fits, so frontier-model rates are only used where they’re needed (Google’s claim).
- Google says your prompts, outputs and data are not used to train its models.

What this means in practice (our reading)
- A five-person team on Business edition would pay at least $105 a month ($21 × 5), before any extra costs Google may charge for the agent.
- The quickest way to know the real cost is the 30-day Plus trial, which doesn’t need a sales call.
- If you only want a personal AI chat app, this isn’t the product; it’s built and priced for teams.

Features
From cloud.google.com/gemini-enterprise, its Business edition page and FAQ, and Google’s Oct 8, 2026 launch post, checked October 13, 2026.
- One agent for everything: ask a question, draft a campaign, analyze data or ship code from one prompt box with one shared context.
- Works where you work: 100+ integrations, including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Confluence, Notion, Jira, Linear, Asana, GitHub, GitLab, Salesforce, HubSpot, ServiceNow, Docusign and BigQuery. Your data stays where it lives.
- Memory: session, semantic, procedural and episodic memory across devices and channels; teach it a task once and it repeats it the same way.
- Long-running jobs: lengthy work runs on its own secure machine in Google Cloud, so it finishes after you log off.
- Governance: runs under each user’s existing permissions, keeps a complete audit trail, and supports per-project budget caps.
- Model routing: picks the model for speed, cost and accuracy under one bill; Google says other providers’ models are coming.
- Business edition extras: Gemini Notebook (up to 300 documents per notebook), the Deep Research agent, Canvas, and a no-code Workflow Builder.
Who it’s for
- Teams already on Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 who want one agent across their apps instead of a separate bot in each tool.
- IT and security leads who need permissions, audit logs and spend caps before rolling out AI agents.
- Small businesses up to 300 people: Business edition is self-serve with a 30-day trial.
- Not for you if you want a consumer AI app, a fixed public price for the agent, or features you can rely on today rather than “early access.”

The catch
Several headline features are still early access, and there’s no public price for the agent.
- Google’s own page says delegating multi-step background tasks, Gemini on mobile and desktop, and third-party model choice are “currently in early access.”
- The FAQ says “Google Gemini models today, with additional models coming soon,” so other providers’ models aren’t generally available yet.
- No price is listed for the agent itself, and the pages don’t say which edition includes it. Standard and Plus pricing goes through sales.
Verdict
- Start with the 30-day trial: Business edition (from $21 per seat a month) or the Plus trial, both without a sales call.
- Ask sales in writing which edition includes the Gemini agent and what it costs before you roll it out.
- Don’t plan around early-access features like background task delegation or third-party models until they’re generally available.
Worth it if: your team works in Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Slack and you want one governed agent with audit trails and spend caps.
Skip it if: you want a consumer app, a fixed public price, or you can’t wait for early-access features.
