New launch, not tested hands-on. Inbox Zero (“Open-source Superhuman alternative”) was #1 on the Product Hunt daily leaderboard for October 18, 2026 when we checked (about 8:15 AM ET). The product itself is not brand new: its terms of service are dated July 16, 2023, and this launch adds the new Inbox Zero Mail app. Everything below comes from getinboxzero.com. We have not connected an inbox to it.

Summary

Quick verdict: a strong pick if you live in Gmail or Outlook and want AI that sorts mail and drafts replies without moving to a closed inbox. The email app is free; the AI costs $18 to $42 per user a month on yearly billing. The code is open source, so you can also self-host.

  • Two parts: a free email app (web, desktop, iPhone) and paid AI plans that work inside Gmail, Outlook or the app.
  • AI plans per user a month: Starter $18, Plus $28, Professional $42 on yearly billing; $20, $35 and $50 paid monthly.
  • Every AI plan has a 7-day free trial; Inbox Zero offers a refund if you email within 14 days of upgrading.
  • Core jobs: auto-labels every email, pre-drafts replies in your tone, blocks cold email, bulk unsubscribe and archive, email analytics, pre-meeting briefings.
  • Rules are written in plain English; drafts can use your calendar and CRM data.
  • Open source (code on GitHub, self-hosting possible); the hosted product says it is SOC 2 Type 2 certified and does not train AI on your data.

Features

From getinboxzero.com, its pricing and about pages, October 18, 2026. Described, not tested.

  • Auto-labelling: smart categories (To Reply, Newsletter, Marketing, Calendar, Cold Email, Urgent and more) or your own.
  • Pre-drafted replies: every email that needs an answer gets a draft in your tone, built from your email history and calendar.
  • Plain-English rules: describe how mail should be handled and the assistant applies it.
  • Clean-up tools: bulk unsubscribe and archive, cold-email blocker, auto-file attachments, auto-forward.
  • Analytics: who emails you most and what clogs the inbox; team-wide analytics on Professional.
  • Beyond the inbox: read and reply from Slack, Telegram, mobile or the web (Teams marked “Coming soon”), pre-meeting briefings and an AI meeting notetaker (Plus and up).
  • Inbox Zero Mail (new): a free email app for Gmail and Outlook on web, Mac, Windows and iPhone (no Android version of the app is listed).
  • Open source: public code on GitHub (the site claims 12k+ stars) and a self-hosting option.

Who it’s for

  • Founders, executives and operators who get more email than they can handle by hand.
  • People who want to stay in Gmail or Outlook: the AI works there, so you don’t have to switch clients.
  • Privacy-minded or technical teams who like that the code is public and self-hostable.
  • Not for you if you use an email provider other than Google or Microsoft, or if you want a one-time price rather than a per-user subscription.

The catch

The app is free, but the AI that does the real work is a per-user subscription, and you hand it access to your mailbox.

  • You connect your full Gmail or Outlook account; read the privacy and security pages before you do (Inbox Zero says no AI training on your data and SOC 2 Type 2).
  • Per-user pricing adds up for teams: five people on Plus is $140 a month on yearly billing.
  • Only Gmail, Google Workspace and Outlook are supported, based on the pages we read.
  • Microsoft Teams access is marked “Coming soon”, and the new email app lists no Android version.
  • Self-hosting is possible but is your own technical work; the page gives no price for it because the code is open source.
  • We have not tested how good the drafts or labels are.

Verdict

  • Email app (free): try it if you want a faster inbox for several Gmail and Outlook accounts; costs nothing.
  • Starter ($18 yearly / $20 monthly): the right plan for one person who wants sorting and reply drafts.
  • Plus ($28 / $35): worth it only if you need the meeting notetaker, Slack, integrations or a second inbox.
  • Professional ($42 / $50): for teams that want shared analytics and onboarding help.

This is the price at the moment we wrote this review (October 18, 2026). The price may have changed by the time you read it, so check the official site for today’s price.

Worth trying if: you drown in Gmail or Outlook, want AI drafts and labels without changing clients, and value open source.

Skip it if: you are on another email provider, or you are not comfortable giving an AI tool access to your mailbox.

Not tested hands-on. Prices can change; re-check getinboxzero.com/pricing before you buy.
